Infinite Space, Infinite God is a science fiction anthology of decidedly Roman Catholic stories. This was something of a surprise since I knew several of the authors were not themselves Catholic. But a good number of the stories have a general Christian appeal. So as long as a reader has no personal vendetta with the Catholic church, one can still enjoy this award-winning collection edited by Karina and Robert Fabian.
My biggest “problem”, if one could call it that, is my taste for novels, and not just novels, but trilogies and longer series. I always want more, more, more. Just as I was starting to get to like a character or a setting, BAM, the story was over! The upside to this is that you won’t ever be reading Infinite Space, Infinite God at 2AM and NEED to stay awake another hour or two, just to find out what happens. I think I read all but one story in under 30 minutes. So these are nice little short-commitment reads, with the second benefit being if you don’t like a given story, it’ll be over soon. With all the stories being so different, surely the next one will catch your fancy.
There is an extensive excerpt (the introduction plus one full story) and synopses for all the other stories on the Twilight Times website, so I won’t try to duplicate that here. Twilight Times is also where to go to purchase the eBook. Paperbacks are available at Amazon.com.

ReplyDeleteThat's the advantage of an anthology. (As long as it's not all flashfics you can read in under 30 seconds.) It's also the reason I'm reduced to reading Andre Norton juveniles that are older than I am; at 50-60,000 words, unlike today's 120,000+ word trilogy components, you can finish one at a sitting.
